The mother of injured Tennessee State linebacker Christion Abercrombie christened Tuesday as “Terrific Tuesday” as her son continues to make progress after a severe head injury.

Staci Abercrombie tweeted a mid-morning update on Christion, and had nothing but great news to share.

This is the latest of several positive updates about Abercrombie, who was injured nearly two weeks ago during what coach Rod Reed called “just a football play” during TSU’s game against Vanderbilt. Abercrombie came back to the sideline during the first half, complaining of a headache. The trainers gave him oxygen, but he quickly collapsed and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.

Abercrombie’s uncle, Kevin Richardson, said at a vigil last week that Christion is showing daily improvement. Another of Abercombie’s relatives tweeted even more encouraging news on Monday.

A thumbs up and a knuckle-popping hand squeeze is more than enough news to dub the day “Terrific Tuesday” for sure.

Tennessee State has set up a GoFundMe page for Christion (which is within NCAA rules, so his eligibility is still intact), and he’s received shows of support from his teammates, players at other schools, and even rival coaches.
