HGTV star Christina El Moussa got two new tattoos commemorating the birth dates of her two children, Taylor Reese, 6, and Brayden James, 1, whom she shares with her ex and Flip or Flop co-star, Tarek El Moussa. The couple called it quits in December after seven years of marriage.

“Been wanting this for a long time … no time like the present,” Christina wrote on Instagram, along with a photo of her arm baring the new tattoos. Her children’s birth dates were inked in Roman numerals, one stacked upon the other.

The post has received more than 21,000 likes. Many Instagram users said how much they “love” the “cute” tattoos, and several called the ink “awesome,” but not everyone was a fan. One Instagram user wrote “tacky!” and others took issue with the tattoo work itself, saying that the ink looked “sloppy,” “wonky,” and “uneven.”

But as astick68 put it: “Haters gonna hate! It looks awesome @christinaelmoussa!! And as long as you are happy, that is all that matters!!

Christina isn’t the first celebrity mom to commemorate an important event related to her kids by putting it in ink. Angelina Jolie has a series of tattoos on her upper left arm with some meaningful geographical coordinates: the latitude and longitude of where each of her six children was born.

Some moms have also gotten breastfeeding tattoos to mark those memorable and bonding moments of motherhood, posting them on Instagram with the hashtag #breastfeedingtattoos. Psychologist Sharon Draper told Essential Baby that the tattoos can remind women of the strength they found during breastfeeding. “They can be a form of self-expression to show the world how proud they are of something they believe in,” Draper said.
