Christie Clinic, Body n’ Sole create new running non-profit for kids

SAVOY, Ill. (WCIA) — We’re a little over one month from Illinois Race Weekend in Champaign-Urbana, and one Savoy business is making sure kids can get more involved this year.

Body n’ Sole is working with Christie Clinic and launching a new non-profit called “Kicks for CU Kids.” It aims to give running shoes to kids in need who are training for an upcoming 5K or youth run.

The running store will supply the shoes and properly fit each kid so they have the perfect pair.

So far, they’ve worked with area schools and Girls on the Run.

“The impact of this grant goes beyond providing running shoes; it’s about creating opportunities and fostering a sense of accomplishment,” Robin Maier, the Girls on the Run council director, said.

Mike Lindemann, Body n’ Sole’s owner, said delivering the shoes and being with the kids is always fun.

“The kids lighting up and running around at the gym, it was fun,” he described. “The kids are very thankful, it was very enjoyable. A highlight of my day!”

With support from area companies, Kicks for CU Kids has raised over $7,000 so far to be used on new shoes and fittings.

Next week, Lindemann said he’ll meet with the DREAAM organization and provide shoes to many of their students.

“We want them to have a good experience with it and go out and be able to enjoy it,” Lindemann said. “After the race, they can wear them every day and feel that. Maybe that keeps them committed to the sport and they enjoy running. I think physically, mentally, I think running is great.”

Race weekend kicks off on April 25, 2024, with the Green Street Mile. The other major races are on the 27th. If you’d like to participate as a runner, visit this link.
