Why Christian Wilkins feels like Arnold Schwarzenegger in 'Kindergarten Cop'
Clemson defensive lineman Christian Wilkins feels like he’s living a real-life version of Kindergarten Cop. Why? Because he substitute-taught kindergarteners this offseason.
The star lineman could be prepping for a future NFL career as a likely first-round draft choice in the 2018 NFL draft. But he chose to come back to Clemson for his senior season and is instead spent some time earlier this year wrangling 5 and 6-year-olds.
“It was fun, but took a lot out of me,” he told ESPN. “I felt like Arnold Schwarzenegger in ‘Kindergarten Cop’ with all those little kids. Talk about energy, but it was a real cool experience.”
Wilkins said the teachers at the school in Walhalla, South Carolina, were more starstruck than the kids were that a player from Clemson’s national championship team was in their school. Principal Ashley Robertson, a Clemson graduate, admitted to ESPN that she let out a scream when she found out Wilkins was going to be substitute teaching at her school.

She said Wilkins was a “natural” when it came to his temporary gig. If the NFL doesn’t work out after the 2018 season, it’s pretty clear he’s got a calling in the education field.
Wilkins was one of the multiple Clemson defensive linemen who returned for the 2018 season instead of leaving for the draft. Defensive ends Austin Bryant and Clelin Ferrell are also coming back, making the Tigers’ defense one of the most ferocious in the country yet again.
