Chrissy Teigen just offered to pay gymnast McKayla Maroney's fine for speaking out against sexual abuse

Chrissy Teigen to the rescue.

The model and cookbook author responded to a report from Daily Mail that revealed gymnast McKayla Maroney, the first to speak out about being sexually abused by USA Gymnastics ex-team doctor Larry Nassar, currently faces a $100,000 fine if she violates a non disclosure agreement with USA Gymnastics and address Nassar at his sentencing

Teigen spoke out on Tuesday morning against the principles behind the NDA and offered to pay Maroney's fine if the gymnast decided to break the contract.

"The entire principle of this should be fought," Teigen tweeted. "An NDA to stay quiet about this serial monster with over 140 accusers, but I would be absolutely honored to pay this fine for you, McKayla."

Buying one's silence on abuse via signed NDAs is a conversation that has cropped up throughout the larger discussion on sexual misconduct, harassment, and abuse in 2017. As reported last year by Ronan Farrow for The New Yorker, Harvey Weinstein employed the same tactic USA Gymnastics seems to be using to repress the stories of sexual abuse coming out and striking blows to their reputations of people and institutions.

Maroney has deleted her social media accounts after coming forward with her story last year, but fans have hopped online to offer their support and some are even asking Teigen if they can throw in their contributions, with any remaining money headed towards #MeToo initiatives like Time's Up
