Chris Soules' Ex-Fiancée Whitney Bischoff Reacts to His 'Very Sad' Arrest

Chris Soules ex-fiancée Whitney Bischoff is speaking out after his arrest on Monday for fleeing the scene of a deadly crash.

“This is a very sad situation,” Bischoff, 31, exclusively told PEOPLE. “I’m keeping everyone in my thoughts and prayers, especially the victim and his family.”

The Bachelor alum was arrested at 1:16 a.m. on Tuesday after the fatal incident. According to the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office, Soules, 35, was temporarily in custody and was charged with allegedly leaving the scene of a fatal car accident that left one individual dead. Soules was not charged with driving under the influence.

The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office says Soules’ bail has been set at $10,000 and that he has retained an attorney.

Authorities have not released further information on the accident. According to KWWL.com, a pickup truck and a tractor were involved in the crash, with both vehicles going southbound. Officers say the truck collided into the rear of the tractor, sending both vehicles into roadside ditches. The victim was Kenneth Mosher, 66, of Aurora.

TMZ reports that Soules, who is from Arlington, Iowa, was driving the pickup truck. The driver of the tractor reportedly was taken in an ambulance to the hospital, where he died.

Soules starred on season 19 of The Bachelor in 2015, giving his final rose to Bischoff. The pair later broke off their engagement in May 2015.

In a joint statement previously released to PEOPLE, the couple said they intended to “part with nothing but respect and admiration for one another and will continue to be supportive friends. They wish to thank everyone who has supported them through this journey.”

Bischoff is currently engaged to Ricky Angel, a regional sales manager based out of her native Chicago.
