Chris Pratt may be a movie star, but he’s all about the great outdoors when he’s off the clock. And though the Guardians of the Galaxy star has made no secret of his affinity for chopping down trees and strapping on a hunting rifle, some fans were taken aback by his latest Instagram post expressing excitement for the upcoming elk hunting season.

The post shows him suited up in camo gear as he gushes about being “really excited for hunting season,” which typically kicks off in October.

“Can’t wait to put a hurting on a monster bull,” the actor captioned the post.

While plenty of fans agreed, others expressed disappointment that their favorite cinematic dinosaur-wrangler would shoot big game in real life.

“I am a fan of yours,” read one comment. “I like your movies, you’re funny. But I didn’t know you were a hunter. Hunting animals for sport/fun is something I find hard to understand and never will. I know this won’t matter to you or anyone else one bit, but I won’t be following you anymore nor will I pay to see any of your movies. I’m not an activist nor do I get on my high horse much but I am an animal lover and do not believe any animal should be hunted for fun.”

“I’m so disappointed that you hunt,” added a follower.

“You shoot defenseless animals with high-powered rifles?” asked a commenter. “OK. You’ve gone down in my estimations. Shame.”

“No!!! Unfollowing with a heavy heart,” added another dismayed fan, while another commenter said that they “feel sick at the thought of [Pratt] taking an animal’s life.”

The backlash was roundly mocked by many Pratt fans, who left comments like “cue animal activists in 3,2,1…” and “here come the offended vegans.”

One supporter praised Pratt for not living “in a bubble,” while another insisted that the actor uses every bit of the animals he kills, and “doesn’t just hunt for sport.”

Updated 3:50 p.m. ET: Pratt, who is currently dating Katherine Schwarzenegger, has since deleted the post.
