CHP officer hospitalized after being hit by red light runner near Auburn

(FOX40.COM) — An officer with the California Highway Patrol has been hospitalized after receiving major injuries from a crash along State Route 49 on Friday morning, according to the CHP.

At 1:28 p.m., FOX40.com was told by CHP that the officer is in stable condition.

The CHP says that the collision occurred near SR-49 and Shale Ridge Road at around 6:35 a.m., when a driver ran a red light while heading southbound on SR-49 and collided with the officer, who was heading eastbound on Shale Ridge Road.

The collision caused the officer to be ejected from his motorcycle, leaving him major injuries. He was transported to a local hospital.

SR-49 from Bell Road to Dry Creek Road has been closed for an undetermined amount of time, according to Caltrans District 3.

As the collision remains under investigation, the CHP is asking drivers to slow down and expect delays in the area of the crash.
