CHP motorcyclist seriously injured in Placer County after driver runs red light

A California Highway Patrol motorcyclist is seriously injured after a driver who ran a red light hit them in Placer County, officials said. The crash happened around 6:35 a.m. along Highway 49 at Shale Ridge Road near the Auburn area, CHP said. A vehicle was going southbound on Highway 49, blew past the red light and hit the CHP officer who was going northbound toward Shale Ridge Road, ejecting him.
