Chinese artist Zhang Huan featured in Michigan

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — The work of Chinese artist Zhang Huan is being featured through late August at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park.

The West Michigan cultural attraction is hosing "Looking East, Facing West: The World of Zhang Huan," a retrospective of his work.

Meijer Gardens says Huan's compositions as a sculptor, painter, photographer and installation artist encompass themes of Chinese history and spiritual tranquility. "Looking East, Facing West: The World of Zhang Huan" explores his work thematically and artistically.

Works of sculpture are inspired by historical models and antique fragments of Buddha-related imagery. Several photo installations document Huan's performance pieces. His steel and copper sculpture "Long Island Buddha" has been acquired by Meijer Gardens and is being displayed.

The exhibition runs until Aug. 25.
