China takes action against numerous officials for allowing vaccine scandal to erupt

The scandal emerges while the Chinese government is trying to grow its domestic pharmaceutical industry.

In response to a scandal that a vaccine maker faked records, Chinese authorities dismissed a provincial vice governor and ordered an investigation into the former head of its Food and Drug Administration.

The moves came as the Communist Party leadership met to discuss ways to cope with the episode in which Changchun Changsheng Life Sciences was found to have sold nearly half a million doses of an ineffective rabies vaccine. The company was accused of fabricating production and inspection records, although there are no reports of serious adverse events.
