China launches probe of European solar silicon

BEIJING (AP) — China says it has launched a trade probe of European solar-grade polysilicon in the latest of a series of disputes with the United States and European Union.

The Ministry of Commerce said Thursday it will investigate whether the European Union is improperly subsidizing its producers of polysilicon or dumping their products in foreign markets.

The probe is the latest in a series of disputes between China and its trading partners over market access and trade conditions for steel, solar panels, auto parts and other goods.

It follows the European Union's launch in September of an anti-dumping probe of Chinese solar panels following complaints by European producers.
