Global South countries should be applying more pressure on Moscow to halt its armed aggression against Ukraine and negotiate in good faith, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on May 7.

The chancellor singled out China, Brazil, and India as having substantial leverage over Russia due to their mutual economic ties.

"The stronger the message from such countries to Russia that 'enough is enough, and the war must end with Russian troop withdrawal,' the better the chances for quick peace," German broadcaster ZDF quotes Scholz.

Scholz added that the Global South must play a “pivotal” role in ending Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
