Chilly, showery Sunday should ease into drier conditions for most of Southern California

What began as yet another rainy weekend in Southern California should end with a spell of dry weather, according to the National Weather Service.

Sunday morning opened as Saturday ended, with some light showers lingering in parts of Orange County and the Inland Empire into later in the morning. Some scattered showers could last into later in the day but a brief drying period was expected to begin by the evening hours, the NWS said.

“We are going to see some scattered, spotty showers [Sunday] but the chances of seeing rain does decrease as we head into Sunday afternoon,” said KTLA’s Kacey Montoya.

While rain weakens, stronger winds could take over as the star of the show Sunday. Gusts along the coasts and in the mountain regions could top out over 50 miles per hour, with sustained winds in double digits throughout the rest of inland Southern California.

Heading into Monday, the rain is likely to stay away. Temperatures, however, could hover into the low 60s in most of Los Angeles, Ventura, San Bernardino and Riverside Counties.

Rain was expected to return in a modest form on Wednesday, but those showers should lead into a warming pattern in the late week with above-average temperatures expected across the board.
