Child presidential re-enactors invade National Constitution Center

On the national Washington’s Birthday holiday also known as Presidents Day, the National Constitution Center was overrun by presidential re-enactors of all sizes.

At a special Kids Town Hall: Meet the Presidents event, four adult re-enactors were joined by children who took part in a presidential costume contest.

Fox 29’s Alex Holley moderated the interview session with the adult versions of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. Among the serious talk was a debate over the extent of presidential powers between Roosevelt and Jefferson about Roosevelt’s use of executive orders.

Among the questions for the Presidents from the young audience was a tough one for Washington – the names of his nine dogs – and an awkward one for Lincoln – why did his brothers-in-law fight for the Confederacy.

The event concluded with a child costume contest including junior versions of Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, Andrew Jackson, Roosevelt and Harry Truman. But the winner was Abigail Adams, accompanied by an infant version of John Quincy Adams.
