In a world without an NFL salary cap, the Chiefs and their fans would be thrilled to welcome back linebacker Willie Gay Jr.

Gay, who was selected by the Chiefs in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, has played his entire four-season career with the Chiefs. But he is a free agent now, and there’s a good chance he will be signing with a new team.

With the start of NFL free agency, people are always looking for clues as to moves teams would be making or where players might be signing.

For example, ESPN reporter Brooke Pryor (the former Star writer) noted that new Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson seems to like the thought of Gay signing with Pittsburgh.

Gay didn’t mention the Steelers or any other team when he posted a message Tuesday on X (formerly Twitter). He was making a case that he could be a great starter for a team.

“I never try to defend myself on social media lol, but I have to say to all fans, please don’t judge my Talent based on the 20-25 plays a game I played last year lol,” Gay wrote. “Getting a feel for the game and momentum is REAL.”

Gay played 62% of the snaps last season with the Chiefs, per Pro Football Reference.

Chiefs fans responded to Gay’s message and shared their love for what he’s done. Here is part of what they wrote.
