Chief of Lake Lafayette police dies from medical illness while on duty

LAKE LAFAYETTE, Mo. — The City of Lake Lafayette, Missouri announced Friday the line of duty death of Police Chief Steven Singer.

Singer suffered a medical illness following a call for service and died on Monday, April 8, according to the city.

Singer began working for the Lake Lafayette Police Department in June 2004. He also served as a patrol deputy with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office from June 2004 until June 2015, taking the Lake Lafayette Police Department position while a deputy with the sheriff’s office.

“Chief Singer will be missed by the agencies and the communities he has served for nearly 20 years,” the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office said on Friday.

Public visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 17, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Bulldog Football Stadium at Odessa High School.

Memorial service will be held immediately following visitation at 6 p.m. All professional law enforcement honors will be rendered at the conclusion of the service in the stadium. There will be no procession following the services.
