Chick-fil-A looks to bring food truck to Rochester: Here's the plan

ROCHESTER — A public hearing on Wednesday is set to discuss a Chick-fil-A food truck coming to the city.

The proposal submitted by Green Mountain LLC/Chick-fil-A is asking the city's Zoning Board of Adjustment for a special exception to permit a "food stand" in the parking lot at Rochester Crossing, located at 160 Washington St. The truck for the fast food chain known for its chicken sandwiches would be located outside Lowe's Home Improvement.

City Planning Director Shanna Saunders said that in Rochester, a food stand is further defined to include food trucks, which are required to get a special exception to operate in the city.

The Chick-fil-A restaurant chain originated in Georgia and now has franchises throughout the country. The first full-sized restaurant locally is planned in Newington. Its food trucks can also be found in many locations nationally.

Lowe's looks to compete with Home Depot on food front, too

Lowe's general manager Michael Pagliuca confirmed the Chick-fil-A food truck would be located outside the store.

"We know the Home Depot has their sausage truck, and it does very well, and brings in customers to the store," he said. "So when Chick-fil-A approached us, we thought, why not?"

When will Chick-fil-A food truck be open at Lowe's in Rochester?

Pagliuca said the food truck is planned to be present in spring and summer, on Thursdays, tentatively from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

A spokesperson for Chick-fil-A could not be immediately reached.

Chick-fil-A is known for its menu that includes chicken sandwiches, nuggets, wraps, breakfast sandwiches, burritos and strips. It also serves waffle fries, salads, chicken tortilla soup, chicken noodle soup and macaroni and cheese.
