Chicago shop named best bakery in Illinois, according to Yelp’s ‘Elite Squad’
(NEXSTAR) – Where do Yelp’s “Elite” members go when they get a hankering for doughy treats and refined sugars?
If they’re in Illinois, they just might head over to Mindy’s Bakery in Chicago, according to the review website.
Yelp recently compiled a list of the best bakeries in every state based on the ratings of its “Elite Squad” — a group of users who have demonstrated a knack for going “above and beyond” with their reviews and photos — and Mindy’s Bakery apparently takes the cake in Illinois.
“Truly the BEST pastry place in Chicago! It is totally worth the wait,” shared one “Elite” Yelp reviewer. “The line goes by quickly and once you get inside, it’s an endless array of treats.”

Mindy’s Bakery, located in Bucktown, specializes in Eastern European, French, Italian, and Middle Eastern-influenced baked goods.
The bakery was established in 2022 after the owner, Mindy Segal, closed her restaurant of 17 years, Hot Chocolate, when the pandemic hit in 2020. What started as a weekend bakery pop-up became a brick-and-mortar business when Mindy’s Bakery officially opened on Milwaukee Avenue in Wicker Park in summer 2022.
Best known for its signature hot chocolate, which Segal brought over from her previous restaurant, Mindy’s Bakery serves a variety of bagels, croissants, danishes, donuts, and so much more.
“This is my favorite bakery of all time. The line is worth it. The staff is friendly. You cannot go wrong with literally anything on the menu,” shared another “Elite” Yelp reviewer.
