Chevy Bolt may outsell every other EV short of the Tesla Model S
The Chevy Bolt EV has only been on sale nationwide for a short while, but it's already on pace to outsell every other electric car on the market, save for the Tesla Model S. This is a huge win for Chevy, especially considering that only about 40 percent of its U.S. dealers have the model in stock. Now that production of the Tesla Model 3 is ramping up, it will be interesting to see if Chevy can carry this momentum forward for the rest of the year.
According to Car and Driver, Chevy sold 12,249 Bolts from December 2016 through the end of August 2017. The car first went on sale in California before rolling out across the rest of the nation. We've been big fans of the car ever since we got behind the wheel last year. It seems customers share our enthusiasm, though until the Model 3 arrived, nothing could really touch the Bolt EV when it comes to range and price. Even then, most customers are unlikely to pick up a base model Tesla, so in practical terms it's the more expensive car.
Chevy is hoping to rack up at least 20,000 sales this year. This will help cash in on government zero emission vehicle credits. In addition to the Model 3, the Bolt EV will soon go head to head with the all-new Nissan Leaf and refreshed BMW i3. Still, both of those cars are short on range compared to the Bolt EV.
