Chester Township suspect accused of numerous firearms charges

GAYLORD — Troopers from the Michigan State Police Gaylord Post were dispatched to an area near Finnegan Road and Turtle Lake Road in Chester Township on April 14 for a report of a person discharging a firearm in an unsafe and reckless manner.

Troopers spoke with a woman at a residence in the area. The woman said she was shooting her newly purchased .22 caliber rifle because she needed to sight it in. Through further investigation, troopers located a man hiding inside of the house. He was a known felon and highly intoxicated.

Further investigation revealed that he was the one who had been discharging the firearm. The man voluntarily submitted to a preliminary breath test and was found to be over three times the legal limit for driving.

The man was arrested and lodged in the Otsego County Jail on felony firearms, felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, reckless discharge of a firearm and possession of a firearm while intoxicated.
