Chester HS student charged with firearm offenses Thursday

CHESTER, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Chester County Sheriff deputies say a 14-year-old student’s bullet revelation led to two charges Thursday.

Deputies say the student showed off a bullet to classmates, and they soon discovered a firearm and magazine in a bookbag during school dismissal.

School officials informed the school’s School Resource Officer (SRO), and the unnamed student is facing charges of:

  • Carrying weapon on school grounds

  • Minor in possession of a firearm

In a social media post, the school system said there was no direct threat against any student or staff member on campus, and the situation was resolved without any harm.

The Chester County Sheriff’s Office said the student went to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) in Columbia, where they will remain pending a hearing before a Family Court Judge.
