Cherokee County road and bridge crews were clearing roadways on Sunday including knocked down power lines, damaged houses, and blocked roadways from storms that moved through the county.

Cherokee County Commissioner Precinct 1 Kelly Traylor said he and his crews were working overnight so residents could travel on their roadways.

“Well, we’ll make sure that the roadway is clear, and the residents can get home and school buses can run,” Traylor said.

The county is still recovering from the storm that hit two weeks ago.

“Puts a strain on your budget when you have to have back-to-back storms and you can’t recover from storms and you have another one,” Traylor said.

Traylor urged drivers to be aware of what’s ahead on the road and patient through the cleanup process. He reminding residents that after those trees are removed from the road, it’s a three-to-four-month period to get the limbs and debris cleaned up from the side of the streets.

“Know sometimes it’s hard to be patient and you get frustrated but we’re doing the best we can,” Traylor said.

Traylor said he knows more storms could be headed to East Texas but is optimistic about the outcomes.

“We’re hoping that we can catch a break and that you know, mother nature is a little kinder to us the next go around,” Traylor said.
