CANTON, Ohio (WJW) — For some historical perspective, LeBron James’ rookie season was 21 years ago. That’s when the Brown Derby restaurant opened in Belden Village.

James is still serving up monster jams in the NBA, but the once-thriving Brown Derby has packed it in.

“After decades of serving delicious meals and creating cherished memories, the beloved establishment announced its closure [Tuesday],” said Plain Township trustee Brook Harless.

Brown Derby owner Parris Girves told FOX 8 News that employees will receive their final paychecks and will be assisted in finding future employment. Another Stark County restaurateur announced buying the property, but details are being worked out.

“As we reflect on the countless meals shared and milestones celebrated within its walls, we extend our gratitude to the dedicated staff and loyal patrons who made the Brown Derby a cherished part of our lives,” Harless said. “Though the doors may have closed, the legacy of the Brown Derby will live on in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of dining there.”
