UNION SPRINGS, Ala. (WRBL) – The Auburn community is grieving the loss of Delvin Tarver, an 18-year-old senior at Auburn High School, who tragically lost his life over the weekend in a shooting incident at a CVS parking lot following a prom party.

Tarver, who was scheduled to graduate in just 17 days on May 23, was a distinguished member of the National Honor Society and football player according to social media posts.  AHS is providing grief counselors throughout the week to support students and staff coping with this devastating loss.

According to Lt. Gary Lewis of the Union Springs Police Department, the shooting occurred after the Bullock County High School prom on Friday night, as teenagers congregated in the CVS parking lot off Baskin Street around 12:45 a.m. Saturday. Although Tarver did not attend the prom or an after-party, he was in the CVS parking lot when shots were fired. Investigators believe Tarver was shot while inside a small SUV and was subsequently transported to Baptist South by ambulance, where he succumbed to his wounds. It appears nobody else was injured.

A motive for the shooting is still under investigation. While authorities have identified a person of interest in connection with the shooting, no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The Union Springs Police Department is urging anyone with information to come forward and call police at 334-738-3131, or individuals can choose to remain anonymous by contacting Central Alabama Crime Stoppers at 334-215-STOP (7867).
