Cher Lloyd has said she is “counting her lucky stars” after her car brakes failed while driving her two young children.

The former X Factor star explained that she was driving her Ford Ranger when her “brakes totally failed with no warning” and that it was a “total engine failure due to the wet belt”.

The Want You Back hitmaker added that her five-year-old and eight-month-old daughters were in the car with her at the time of the accident.

Sharing a photo of her car to Instagram on Wednesday, she warned her followers to be vigilant, writing: “My brakes totally failed with no warning while driving with my baby and my 5yr old.

“Total engine failure due to the wet belt. To anyone who owns one or is thinking of buying one, BEWARE! I’m counting my lucky stars that my family is safe.

“This beautiful vehicle however, has retired well before her time.”

Lloyd found fame as a contestant on The X Factor in 2010, despite finishing fourth behind One Direction, Rebecca Ferguson, and winner Matt Cardle.

Initially signed to Simon Cowell’s Syco record label, she later parted ways in 2013 due to creative differences and joined Universal Music.

After her stint on The X Factor, she released two studio albums, Sticks + Stones in 2011 and Sorry I’m Late in 2014.

In 2019, she released the single M.I.A along with its music video, which is rumored to be the lead single from her forthcoming third studio album.

The singer married Craig Monk in 2013 after a year of dating and have welcomed two daughters together.
