Chemung County Department of Aging to hold public hearing

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – The Chemung County Department of Aging and Long Term Care will be holding its annual public hearing this month to discuss needs and services for older adults in the county.

The hearing will take place on Thursday, April 25, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Meals on Wheels Chemung County Event Center on 409 William Street. It will focus on the Chemung County Area Plan on Aging, which is funded under various titles of the Older Americans Act of 1965.

More blood drives come to the Southern Tier this April

During the event, Department of Aging Contract Attorney John Maloney will give a detailed presentation on Elder Law and the importance of estate planning, and Fraud Prevention Coordinator Sheila Brewer-Montero from Lifespan of Greater Rochester Inc. will discuss scam prevention for older adults.

Residents that attend the hearing will be given the opportunity to provide feedback and ideas, ask questions and speak about their concerns regarding needs and services for older adults, people of all ages who need long-term care services and support for their families and caregivers.

Free STI testing and health fair next week in Elmira

The Department of Aging will conduct a community needs assessment survey to gather information for the completion of the next Chemung County Department of Aging and Long Term Care’s four-year plan.

The survey will take place in-person at the public hearing and will be available to the community online by April 25.

Chemung County Department of Aging and NY Connects staff will be at the event, along with community partners, to share information on services and supports that are available in the county. Light refreshments will also be provided.
