Chemicals near food and a greasy ceiling. See worst Horry County restaurant inspections

From improperly stored chemicals to grease build-up, these inspections found several violations at Horry County restaurants recently.

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control inspects eateries throughout the Grand Strand for their safety and cleanliness, with grades as recent as March 20, 2024.

Here are the restaurants that received the worst grades.

El Ranchito Restaurante

Location: 1769 SC-9 Business, Loris

Grade: 79 percent

SCDHEC inspected El Ranchito Restaurante March 13, 2024, and found several violations. SCDHEC observed an employee cooking without gloves on, which was corrected.

Cleaner was stored near food-related items and the hand sink had no soap available for employees, according to SCDHEC’s report. SCDHEC’s inspection also found a hand sink with a leaking drain, as well as a soda can and phone on a prep table.

According to the report, El Ranchito Restaurante must have an on-site follow-up inspection within 10 days to address the violations SCDHEC found.

Little Caesars

Location: 4684 Socastee Blvd, Myrtle Beach

Grade: 80 percent

SCDHEC’s inspection of Little Caesars’ Socastee Boulevard location March 12, 2024, found several violations.

SCDHEC’s report found chemical bottles stored on food boxes and near prep tables, which Little Caesars corrected. The walls and ceiling had heavy grease build-up, as did the pizza oven and walk-in cooler, according to SCDHEC’s inspection.

According to SCDHEC’s report, a jacket was on a prep table, the drive-thru window did not close, and other violations were also found.

Little Caesar’s Socastee Boulevard site must have an on-site follow-up inspection within 10 days to address the violations found in SCDHEC’s report.
