Chemical fire closes stretch of Highway 82 in Crossett

CROSSETT, Ark. – A chemical fire shut down eight miles of Highway 82 Tuesday afternoon in Ashley County.

The fire broke out at Alvar Resins in Crossett. Officials with the Arkansas Department of Transportation report that the fire is now under control.

There were some evacuations of nearby stores because of the fire, but officials said they have now been lifted.

Local reports from AshleyCountyNow noted that no injuries have been reported at this time.

Officials with the Crossett Economic Development Foundation posted on social media that the company owner said no hazardous materials were involved with the fire.

The post went on to note that the owner intends to get operations back online as soon as possible and is committed to taking care of employees.
