Chelsea Clinton Opens the Door... to Something

Chelsea Clinton might have learned a few things from her mother about addressing the possibility of future elected office.

“Right now I'm grateful to live in a city, a state and a country where I strongly support my mayor, my governor, my president and my senators and my representative,” said Clinton, in an exclusive interview with her employer, NBC News. “If at some point that weren't true and I thought I could make a meaningful and measurably greater impact, I'd have to ask and answer that question.”

The former first daughter's sudden appearance on the public stage has spurred rumors she's interested in running, at some point, for something. In recent months, she's taken a more conspicuous role in her father's Clinton Global Initiative, hosted events in New York City, and traveled to the Rockaways last year to help with the clean-up from Hurricane Sandy.

On Friday, Chelsea hosted a panel discussion on women in technology that followed right after her mother's big return to New York City, at the Women in the World Summit at Lincoln Center.

“I deeply respect and appreciate all of the admiration and respect and gratitude for my mother's service,” Clinton said in the NBC interview, which aired Monday morning on the "Today" show. “As a daughter, I very much want her to make the right choice for herself. I know that will be the right choice for our country, and I’ll support her in whatever she chooses to do.”
