Chelsea Clinton Lashes Out at President Trump Amid Ivanka Stand-In Uproar

    July 10, 2017

Chelsea Clinton and Donald Trump have engaged in a war of words after his daughter Ivanka was seen sitting in for the president at a G20 Summit meeting in Germany over the weekend.

Ivanka briefly took her father's place, leading many to slam the president for allowing his daughter, who is not an elected world leader, to be there.

On Monday morning, Trump took to Twitter to defend his daughter while invoking the name of his former opponent, Hillary Clinton.

“If Chelsea were asked to hold the seat for her mother, as her mother gave our country away, the Fake News would say CHELSEA FOR PRES!”

Several hours later, Chelsea Clinton fired back at the president.

“Good morning Mr. President. It would never have occurred to my mother or my father to ask me. Were you giving our country away? Hoping not,” she posted.

Meanwhile, the White House is coming to the defense of Donald Trump. Jr. over revelations that he had a meeting with a Russian lawyer last June at Trump Tower after he was promised dirt on Hillary Clinton.

The Russian lawyer lured Donald Jr., Ivanka's husband Jared Kushner and then-campaign manager Paul Manafort by promising embarrassing information about Clinton in the heat of the campaign.

Trump’s oldest son said in a statement that the lawyer's allegations were "vague, ambiguous and made no sense," adding, "It quickly became clear that she had no meaningful information."

He also took to Twitter Monday morning and further defended himself against the reports and to slam The New York Times, which broke the story.

No inconsistency in statements, meeting ended up being primarily about adoptions. In response to further Q's I simply provided more details. https://t.co/FdT1D4hfhz

In the statement on Sunday, Trump Jr. said the meeting was with an acquaintance he knew from the Miss Universe pageant in 2013 when it was held in Russia.

"I asked Jared and Paul to attend, but told them nothing of the substance," he said. "We had a meeting in June 2016. After pleasantries were exchanged, the woman stated that she had information that individuals connected to Russia were funding the Democratic National Committee and supporting Ms. Clinton. Her statements were vague, ambiguous and made no sense. No details or supporting information was provided or even offered.”

“The meeting lasted approximately 20 to 30 minutes. As it ended, my acquaintance apologized for taking up our time. That was the end of it and there was no further contact or follow-up of any kind. My father knew nothing of the meeting or these events,” he added.

The meeting at Trump Tower was arranged by Rob Goldstone, who was a judge at Trump's Miss Universe Pageant in 2013, which was held in Moscow.

Goldstone manages a Russian pop singer, Emin Agalarov, who is the son of a Russian billionaire. Before he ran for president, Trump appeared in one of Agalarov's music videos.

In 2015, Trump videotaped a birthday greeting for the singer and after the election victory, Agalarov recorded his congratulations with a Trump bobblehead on his desk.
