Don’t mess with Chelsea Clinton! The former First Daughter and only child of President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has developed quite the thick skin in her 20+ years in the national spotlight. And as comedian Vanessa Bayer learned at Variety‘s Power of Women New York luncheon this week, diss her mother and Hillary’s historic presidential run? Chelsea won’t stay silent.

It all started when Saturday Night Live comedian Bayer took to the mic to introduce the event’s honorees, including the likes of Gayle King, Blake Lively, and Chelsea Clinton, in celebration of Variety‘s recognition of their philanthropic contributions globally.

“We have some pretty amazing honorees this afternoon. Jessica Chastain, Gayle King, Blake Lively, Audra McDonald, Tina Knowles, Shari Redstone, and Chelsea Clinton,” said Bayer, before adding, “And they all have one thing in common. None of their moms are president.”

DAMN, Vanessa. You know this is an event feting the remarkable accomplishments of some pretty rad women, right?

But Chelsea, who was being recognized for charitable work with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, an advocacy organization endeavoring to eradicate childhood obesity, wasn’t feeling Bayer’s quip. So when Chelsea finished her speech, she could not help but clap back in the smartest, most graceful, poignant way possible: by reminding us that a woman president is not just possible, it’s inevitable.

“Vanessa, we may be able to say in this room today that no one’s mother is currently president, but some day, someone’s will be.”

BOOM!

Chelsea’s words are a beautiful echo of the hopeful sentiment her mother expressed in the days following Donald Trump’s election victory in November 2016.

“I know we have still not shattered that highest and hardest glass ceiling,” said Clinton in her concession speech. “But someday someone will — and hopefully sooner than we might think right now.”

Who knows? Maybe that someone will be Chelsea!
