Schnucks cheese spreads have been pulled from shelves due to possible Salmonella contamination. Schnucks issued the recall voluntarily with an announcement on its website on May 11, noting that the Schnucks Whip Cream Spread, Schnucks Strawberry Spread, and Schnucks Cream Cheese Spread all have the potential to be contaminated. Read on for more details, including exactly which products the recall includes and what to do if you’ve purchased them.

Schnucks Cream Cheese & Strawberry Spread Recall

According to the Schnucks website, the affected products can be identified as follows:

  • Schnucks Whip Cream Spread; UPC # (found under the barcode on the back of the product): 4131858005; Best by date: 8/8/2024

  • Schnucks Strawberry Spread; UPC #: 4131858007; Best by date: 9/8/2024

  • Schnucks Cream Cheese Spread; UPC #: 4131858023; Best by date: 10/8/2024

Possible Salmonella Contamination

These three products have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, and if consumed, can lead to salmonellosis, one of the most prevalent bacterial foodborne infections. Symptoms typically include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever. These symptoms would become noticable within six hours to six days following consumption of the contaminated foods.

While most people recover from salmonella-related illness after a few days and don't require any treatment, high risk individuals—the elderly, infants, and people with weakened immune systems—may experience more severe symptoms.
