Check Out Hunger returns to the Southern Tier

CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. (WETM) — Grocery stores around the Southern Tier are participating in an annual fundraiser for the Food Bank of the Southern Tier’s Check Out Hunger campaign.

Tops Friendly Markets started its effort last week and come this Sunday, Save A Lot and Jubilee Foods will join in, where customers can donate to the campaign.

“A lot of need at this point in time, benefits were cut last year,” said, David Marks, owner of Save A Lot in Elmira and Jubilee Foods in Horseheads. “I know I’ve heard that there’s more and more people in need at this time of year than there typically is.”

“I always make a donation wherever I go when they have it for the hunger,” said JanNeita Mansfield. “I wish they do it more than just a couple of times. I think they do it one time. I wish they would do it more often because it’s a good program to do.”

Customers can purchase coupons in $2, $3, or $5 amounts to donate to the food bank. For more information about the fundraiser, you can visit the link, where you can also donate.
