Chasiv Yar becomes focus of Russian military efforts, says Ukrainian analyst

Pavlo Narozhnyi, military expert and founder of the Ukrainian charity organization Reactive Post, discussed the situation around the town of Chasiv Yar on NV Radio on April 20.
"The most intense area, the most serious situation, is in Chasiv Yar," Narozhnyi said
"Unfortunately, the enemy has made some headway there — they seized the small village of Bohdanivka about a week ago, situated north of Chasiv Yar. However, the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) are holding their ground, and urban combat has not yet erupted. The enemy is just a few hundred meters away from the town."

Narozhnyi also highlighted strategic shifts by Russian forces, moving resources from the stagnant Kupiansk-Lymansk front to Chasiv Yar. "This move makes sense from a military standpoint because the Kupiansk-Lymansk sector marks the easternmost part of the front," he explained. The Serebryanskyi Forest, a stronghold for Ukrainian defenders, complicates any potential advances in that sector.

Narozhnyi underscored that Chasiv Yar is a small town near Bakhmut, which many believe is pivotal for the Russians to access the Kramatorsk agglomeration.
Russia's top military leadership has tasked its soldiers with capturing Chasiv Yar by May 9, said AFU's Commander-in-Chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi.

Russia was transferring reserves from the Lymansk sector to reinforce offensive actions towards Chasiv Yar in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine's National Guard spokesperson Ruslan Muzychuk said on April 16.
If the Russians manage to capture Chasiv Yar, they are likely to advance on Kostiantynivka, Druzhkivka, Kramatorsk, and Sloviansk, Ukrainian military officials said.
