Charlottesville man faces several charges after meth, fentanyl, mushrooms, guns seized during search

NELSON COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office says a man from Charlottesville is facing several charges and is behind bars following an ongoing criminal investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office along with the Virginia State Police Interstate Criminal Enforcement Unit, and the 3A Regional Drug and Gang Task Force have been actively investigating several people for the distribution of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine in Central Virginia.

As the investigation developed, authorities discovered that 48-year-old Demarcus Brown was allegedly traveling out of the area to purchase large amounts of illegal narcotics and bringing the drugs back to Virginia.

On May 1, deputies conducted a traffic stop on Brown, which resulted in multiple search warrants obtained and served in the Greater Charlottesville Virginia area.

During the search, the sheriff’s office said authorities seized:

  • $8,000 in cash

  • $370,000 in cocaine

  • $34,000 of methamphetamine

  • $2,300 in fentanyl

  • $23,000 in mushrooms

  • $34,000 in marijuana

  • Two pistols valued at $750,000

  • Two rifles valued at $1,500

Brown was charged with the following:

  • Distribution of a Schedule I/II Narcotic (Second or Subsequent Offense)

  • Possession of a Firearm by a Violent Felon

  • Possession of a Stolen Firearm

  • Possession of a Firearm while in Possession of a Scheduled I/II Narcotic

He is being held without bond at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.

The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office says additional charges against Brown are pending and this case is an active criminal investigation.
