Charlotte residents waiting weeks on yard waste from severe storms to be picked up

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – Some Charlotte residents are still waiting for debris to be collected from the damaging storms earlier this month.

The city reported that Solid Waste Services is experiencing delays in yard waste collection, confirming it was from the high demand. Residents are asked to leave limbs and leaves curbside until they are collected.

“Solid Waste Services is committed to restoring regular service as swiftly as possible,” the city said in a statement.

On May 8, severe storms ravaged much of Charlotte, hitting northwest Charlotte especially hard. There were two tornadoes reported in Cleveland and Gaston counties.

Residents are requested to prepare their yard waste according to the Solid Waste Services collection guidelines, place their properly prepared yard waste curbside on their scheduled day, and leave it at the curb until collected.

Residents who wish to receive updates regarding impacts to service can text their collection day to 73224.
