Charlotte Mayor Foxx Will Not Seek Re-Election

Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx says he will not seek re-election, but he isn't saying what he plans to do next.

Foxx has been mayor since 2009. The 41-year-old Democrat was credited with helping bring the Democratic National Convention to Charlotte last summer.

Foxx said in a statement Friday that he's leaving North Carolina's largest city in better shape than it was in 2009. He says at that time, the major financial center had lost thousands of jobs because of the recession.

During his two-terms, Foxx pushed for expansion of light rail service, and the creation of a streetcar line. He also supported plans to use public money to help the city's NFL team, the Carolina Panthers, make improvements to Bank of America stadium.
