Charlotte attorney punched colleague over client relationship, assaulted officers: records

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Charlotte attorney has been arrested and is now facing charges for punching a colleague in the face and assaulting multiple Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers, court records obtained by Queen City News showed Tuesday.

Officers responded to calls regarding the incident around 11:50 a.m. Monday, April 15, at the law offices of Attorney Mary Leazer Rogers on Euclid Avenue. Four victims were listed in the police report as having been assaulted by Rogers.

Court records obtained by Queen City News showed that one of those victims stated they were punched in the head by Rogers with a closed fist causing scratches, blood, and minor injuries to the nose. They were then punched an additional five times in the face while seated, according to Mecklenburg County court records.

The court records stated that the suspect, identified as Rogers, became agitated at this specific victim and “accused the victim of having a personal relationship with a male client,” and that the suspect wanted to have a sexual relationship with the victim, but the victim refused. That is when the alleged attack ensued.

While she was being arrested, Rogers became combative and kicked a CMPD officer before spitting in the face of another CMPD officer, court records state. She then faked a seizure before spitting at a Charlotte Medic staffer while being loaded into an ambulance, records show.

Rogers has been charged with simple assault, assault on a government official, and malicious conduct by a prisoner.

Her bond has been set at $1,000. Rogers is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday afternoon.
