CHARLEVOIX — Charlevoix Performing Arts will present performances of “High School Musical” on Saturday, March 11 and Sunday, March 12 in the Connie Ford Auditorium at Charlevoix Middle/High School.

The show is based on the Disney Channel Original Movie musical and brought to life on stage by middle and high school students. The show will take you into East High School where the jocks, brainiacs and drama kids break the status quo of their cliques and embrace their individuality, according to Morgan McCarthy, director of Charlevoix Performing Arts.

Several of the students taking part in the show said they are fans of the original source material.

"It ties to my childhood because I grew up watching the Disney Channel Original Movie with my sisters," said senior Kaelynn Schwartzfisher, who is playing the part of a brainiac and a cheerleader.

Alayna Smith, a senior playing the parts of Mongo and a cheerleader, said she likes the show because "it shows our students' creative sides and multiple talents."

"We like that we can pop, lock, break and jam," she said.

Students also said preparing for the show has been fun, and that they are looking forward to performing in front of a crowd this weekend.

"It's really fun and funny to perform and great for all ages," said senior Nataley Johnson, who is playing Sharpay Evans. "I'm glad my last show is with this cast and crew. I like performing 'Bop to the Top' because I like my costume and it's fun to perform."

Junior Jasmine Brooks, who is playing Gabriella Montez, added that her favorite part has been "working with all my friends to put together a great show for everyone to enjoy."

The performance starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 11 and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 12. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children and can be purchased at the door.
