Charleston School District promotes school deans to assistant principals

CHARLESTON, Ill. (WCIA) — Two school administrators in the Charleston School District are getting promotions to higher positions at their schools.

Blain Mayhall and Kori Brimner, the Deans of Students at Charleston Middle and High Schools, respectively, were both promoted to assistant principals at their respective schools. The Board of Education approved their promotions at its regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday.

Mayhall, a 2002 graduate of Eastern Illinois University, has been employed with the Charleston School District since 2005, serving as a teacher for students with special needs and also coaching softball, basketball, and track and field within the district. He’s served as Charleston Middle School’s Dean of Students and Athletic Director since 2020.

“Charleston Middle School has been my home since 2006. I have been blessed with the opportunities to teach and coach the wonderful students of this community,” Mayhall said. “My experiences, including dean of students, have prepared me for my next journey in administration. I am honored and excited to continue serving the staff, students, families, and community of Charleston.”

Brimner, a native of Charleston, attended Illinois State University for undergraduate studies and got her master’s degree from EIU in 2012. Starting her career in Paris, she was employed as an English teacher at Charleston High School from 2018 to 2023 before becoming Dean of Students.

“I’m honored to be part of the CUSD #1 Administration, which guides a talented and committed staff while also emphasizing student success,” Brimner said. “I am very grateful for the opportunity to serve the Charleston community in this capacity.”

Mayhall and Brimner’s promotions will take effect on July 1.
