Charles Hamelin wins 1,000 at short-track speedskating World Cup meet in Sochi

SOCHI, Russia - Two-time Olympic champion Charles Hamelin of Canada won the men's 1,000-meter race at a short-track speedskating World Cup event on Sunday.

The Canadian claimed his third victory of the season in 1 minute, 25.159 seconds at the Iceberg arena, which will host the short-track and figure skating events at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

Semen Elistratov of Russia was second in 1:25.79. American J.R. Celski clocked 1:25.803 for third.

Wu Daijing led China's 1-2 finish in the men's 500. Wu won in 41.702 seconds with Yu Jiyang second in 41.814. Russia's Vladimir Grigorev was third.

Vancouver Olympics bronze medallist Park Seung-hi of South Korea won the women's 1,000-meters in 1:30.073. World Cup discipline leader Elise Christie of Britain finished second with a time of 1:30.003. Shim Suk-Hee, South Korea was third.

Fan Kexin of China clocked 44.195 seconds to win the women's 500. Italy's Arianna Fontana was second in 44.629, while Gabrielle Waddell of Canada clocked 58.661 for third.

The last stop of the short track World Cup this season is scheduled for Feb. 8-9 in Dresden, Germany.
