Charges filed against suspect accused in stabbing on Southwest Side

CHICAGO — A Chicago woman accused of stabbing a man on the Southwest Side of the city on Wednesday is now facing felony charges.

Chicago police say 53-year-old Luvenia Slaughter, a Washington Park resident, has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm.

Police say the charges stem from an alleged stabbing that unfolded just after 3 p.m. in the 6000 block of South Western Avenue in Chicago Lawn.

According to officers, Slaughter allegedly stabbed a 41-year-old man in the area, leaving him injured.

Officers say she was taken into custody about an hour later, just after 4 p.m., in the same area where the alleged stabbing occurred.

Currently, it is unclear what led to the stabbing and authorities have not provided an update on the victim’s condition.

Slaughter appeared in court on Saturday for a detention hearing.
