Charges in 2022 Lancaster County shooting dropped after lack of witness cooperation; DA’s Office

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — Charges have been dismissed in a 2022 Lancaster County shooting where a man was injured, the county district attorney’s office announced.

Janieca Rivera, 32, of Lancaster, had her charges from the Jan. 23 shooting along Chesapeake Street dropped due to lack of witness cooperation, a spokesperson for the district attorney’s office confirmed Monday.

“The entire investigation from its inception was hampered by a lack of witness cooperation,” the statement reads. “In anticipation of this trial, we did not have any witnesses that were willing to cooperate and testify. Without witness testimony, there was insufficient evidence to sustain the prosecution. It certainly was not for a lack of effort by the Lancaster City Bureau of Police, which dedicated substantial resources to investigate this matter.”

Rivera was originally charged with aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and discharging a firearm in the City of Lancaster.

According to police, they found the gunshot victim at the hospital after the shooting and police were able to determine that Rivera fired the gun. A warrant was filed for her arrest, and she turned herself in.
