Chargers add CB Butler

The San Diego Chargers signed free agent cornerback Crezdon Butler on Tuesday, the team announced.

To clear roster space for Butler, the Chargers waived defensive end Drake Nevis.

Butler joins his fifth team in four seasons. He has played in 11 games but never started during his NFL career.

The 26-year-old was released at the end of training camp by the Buffalo Bills. He played in six games, mostly on special teams, for the Bills at the end of the 2012 season, logging two special-teams tackles and one tackle on defense.

After the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Butler in the fifth round in 2010, he played in four games as a rookie for the Steelers and had four special-teams tackles. He was waived before the 2011 season and joined the Arizona Cardinals but spent most of the year on injured reserve.

Butler landed with the Washington Redskins to start the 2012 season and played in two games before he was released. He returned to Arizona and was on its practice squad before he signed with Buffalo on Nov. 7
