Charge filed in Belt Entertainment shooting

May 23—A St. Joseph woman faces a charge in connection with a weekend shooting at a Belt Highway entertainment center.

Amari Dydell, 18, is charged with unlawful use of a weapon in the incident, which happened late Saturday at Belt Entertainment, 210 N. Belt Highway.

A probable cause statement in the case said witnesses reported a masked person entered the business and fired multiple shots at a group of people gathered around a pool table. One juvenile was taken to Mosaic Life Care following the incident with a gunshot wound to the leg, police said.

Video footage shows a person with a hood up carrying a bag enter the business at just after 11:30 p.m., walk over to the pool table and then leave. A person who appears to be identical but wearing a mask over their face then enters the building and walks back to the table while manipulating the bag just before 11:40 p.m., with the video showing people running away, court documents say.

Video shows the suspect exit the business with an apparent gun in their hand followed by a car quickly leaving the parking lot. Witnesses told police they saw Dydell pull a mask up, walk into the business and come out carrying a gun, the probable cause statement said.

Dydell is being held at the Buchanan County Jail without bond. She is scheduled to make an initial appearance in court at 8:15 a.m. on Friday, May 24.
