Chapin grad Kristin Fifield named WAC Softball Player of the Week

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Chapin High School graduate Kristin Fifield is off to a stellar start to the 2024 college softball season with Grand Canyon University.

Fifield was named the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Player of the Week. The league office made the announcement on Monday.

This honor comes after Fifield hit .429, going 6-for-14 from the plate, hit a home run, and drove in eight runs in five total games during GCU’s opening weekend of the 2024 season.

Fifield has some big moments over the weekend for the Lopes. Fifield hit a three-run home run to left center in the first inning of GCU’s win against Maine on Friday. On Saturday, Fifield recorded four RBIs in GCU’s victory over St. Thomas.

She concludes her first weekend at the plate with a .429 batting average, .643 slugging percentage and .500 on-base percentage.

Fifield and GCU will be back in action Friday. The Lopes will open up the Littlewood Classic with a game against Memphis and then follow that up with a contest against California at GCU Softball Stadium.
