Chaotic Scenes at Howard University as Nursing Graduation Ceremony Shut Down

A graduation ceremony for nursing students at Howard University in Washington was canceled on May 9 amid unruly scenes at an overcapacity venue, with a faculty dean blaming some student relatives who “do not know how to act”.

Footage recorded by @Dream_Girl_MG shows a smashed door as people throng outside the venue.

Local media quoted Gina S Brown, the faculty dean, as telling the crowd that the event was cancelled due to “the size of the room and because our relatives sometimes do not know how to act”.

DC Fire and EMS said they were called to the scene for a medical incident, but denied it was them who shut down the event.

The university’s livestream has since been made private on YouTube. Credit: @Dream_Girl_MG via Storyful
