Changes proposed for Lithia Pinecrest Road

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Hillsborough County officials are taking the first steps to improve a busy stretch of road. They’re gathering community feedback about changes to Lithia Pinecrest Road.

The proposed project covers 7.5 miles of roadway. The work covers the heavily traveled areas of Lithia Pinecrest Road from Fishhawk Boulevard to Lumsden, and Bloomindale Avenue from Culbreath Road to Pearson Road.

Project leaders are considering improvements at seven of the 19 intersections along the stretch of road. They’re considering whether to add roundabouts or traffic signals. Options also include adding turn lanes, widening lanes and improving conditions for pedestrians and cyclists.

“With more people moving, there is more congestion and there are more crashes. It is very, especially to look at overall improvements in the corridor just to address our number one concern which is safety. Safety of the motoring public and safety of all the users along the corridor,” project manager Sandra Gonzalez said.

The study is the only funded portion of the project. Families can learn about the options and weigh in on changes Tuesday night from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Bloomingdale High School. Plans can also be viewed and feedback can be submitted online.
