This summer Bainbridge Island ferry goers will have their own lane on Highway 305 to board the ferry.

Beginning June 4 crews will create a dedicated right lane for ferry traffic with new pavement markings and signs and install new traffic signals and turn restrictions at the Winslow Way and Harborview Drive intersections, according to Washington State Ferries.

Southbound traffic on Highway 305 will be restricted to one lane to accommodate vehicle ferry traffic in the right lane. Once the roadwork is completed, a new set of traffic revisions will go into effect.

Turns from the highway onto Winslow Way and Harborview Drive will only be possible from the left lane, and the option for a right turn on red will be removed at Winslow Way. Right turns will be prohibited altogether onto the dedicated ferry lane from Winslow.

During construction, southbound Highway 305 will be restricted to a single lane approaching Winslow Way from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 4. WSDOT advises travelers to arrive early or wait until construction is completed in the afternoon to avoid congestion.

Self parking areas, transit service routes, terminal access routes and the pedestrian ferry terminal will not be affected by the highway construction, but walk-on passengers should expect boarding and offboarding delays for another reason. Passengers will have to occasionally load and unload through the car deck, as the final phase of construction on a new overhead walkway at the ferry terminal ramps up.
